We provide assessment, testing services, and counseling for occupational exposure to communicable diseases. This includes source testing, in conformity with the department’s policies and applicable laws and regulations.
This service is done on a 24/7 basis and results are generally ready to be released to the exposed patients within hours of the blood draw. Anyone exposed to an infectious disease—whether a police officer, arrestee, patient, or contact of a patient—should be evaluated promptly and the source of the infection identified. People who have been exposed to an infectious disease should be evaluated promptly and systematically. The primary goals are to prevent acquisition and transmission of the infection, allay the exposed person’s anxiety, and avoid unnecessary interventions. Some may need postexposure prophylaxis.
